Mattocks & Co
Were you advised by Mattocks & Co?
Finding out that money you set aside for the future has not done what you were told it would is unsettling, and wanting to understand why is a reasonable place to start. This page sets out what the public record shows about Mattocks & Co, including the decisions the Financial Ombudsman has published about the firm, so you can see the position for yourself.

The St. James’s Place connection
Mattocks & Co was previously an appointed representative of St. James’s Place (St. James’s Place Wealth Management, FCA reference 195351). An appointed representative carries on regulated business under the wing of a fully authorised firm, its principal. The principal holds the regulatory responsibility and the professional indemnity insurance for the regulated activities carried on under that appointment.
This page reports matters of public record. It makes no allegation against St. James’s Place Wealth Management, which is an authorised firm still trading, nor against any individual.
How to claim
Companies House records show that Mattocks & Co was dissolved on 8 January 2019, more than six years ago. A complaint can only be made to a firm that still exists, so the ombudsman route is not open, and because the company has been dissolved beyond the usual six year window for restoring it to the register, a claim against the firm’s own professional indemnity insurance is generally no longer realistic either.
That leaves the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, the FSCS, as the route worth pursuing. The FSCS has not declared this firm in default at the time of writing. A default is normally declared once the scheme receives a claim it considers eligible, so coming forward is part of what triggers it. If you have only recently become aware that something went wrong, that is not unusual and it does not automatically put you out of time.
The practical challenge with a firm that closed years ago is evidence. Records are scattered or gone, and proving what you were advised to do, and why it was unsuitable, is rarely straightforward on your own. That is exactly the sort of work we take on, so it is worth speaking to us before assuming the case cannot be made.
